April 7, 2020

[Email template to ask for approval below!]

We get it — your developer time is valuable, and so is the company budget needed to send you to a conference like GOTO Chicago. We also know that online conferences don’t tend to hold as much weight as traditional face-to-face conferences. But we’re here to change that.

Every detail of GOTO Chicago 2020 is being planned to ensure the valuable time you spend with us will be a true investment in your learning and growth. You won’t just leave the event having learned a ton from the world’s leading experts in software development, you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to make lasting connections with speakers, partners and attendees through stimulating and accessible session formats.

We’re making sure you leave this unique conference experience with both valuable new ideas and connections. It feels more important than ever to bring our community together to inspire each other, learn from each other and connect with each other during these uncertain times, and we’re working to deliver the absolute best experience for all of us to do just that.

If your boss needs any more convincing, send us an email — we’re happy to help you experience GOTO Chicago however we can, because we promise that you won’t want to miss this year’s conference.

Start by letting them know that from April 27-May 1, you’ll have the chance to learn from 60+ expert practitioners from the comfort of your own home, covering topics like Cloud NativeDevOpsSecurity & Ethical Hacking and emerging technologies like Machine LearningServerless and Quantum Computing.

Find how GOTO Chicago is reinventing what it means to run a digital event with a few more reasons to help build your case below:

INTIMATE TALKS + Q&AS: (18X18)18

  • 18-minute presentations by our roster of experts
  • 18-minute Q&As in an open meeting room
  • 18 attendees present to ask questions and make new connections

We’ve created a unique conference format that we’re calling (18X18)18. The 18X3 format allows each speaker to deliver their talk in intimate sessions repeated throughout the conference. Why 18 minutes? After some experimentation, we found that this is the ideal time for a talk delivered via video. And to ensure attendees get valuable time with speakers, we’re making each session small enough that everyone can ask questions in a comfortable setting.

BIG PICTURE KEYNOTES
It wouldn’t be a GOTO conference without mind blowing keynotes from legendary speakers. We’ll kick off each day by gathering all attendees for a morning keynote meant to energize you for the day of talks and networking ahead, and end each day together with an evening keynote for a big dose of inspiration to close things out.

AMA SESSIONS (ASK ME ANYTHING)
Spend time with your favorite experts at the end of each conference day for crowdsourced question-and-answer sessions, each one meant to open up fascinating discussions outside of the traditional presentation format. We’re planning several dozen AMAs with speakers to give you plenty of chances to get your questions answered and hear responses to the ones you didn’t think to ask.

LUNCH PANELS
Just because we won’t be face-to-face doesn’t mean we can’t all sit together for some food and knowledge. Join us for a lunch panel each conference day where we’ll gather a group of speakers to discuss one topic in-depth, all over some lunch and a coffee.

MASTERCLASSES: OPTIMIZED FOR ONLINE PARTICIPATION
We’ve worked with each of our world-renowned speakers to create a hands-on, interactive session that ensures maximum attention and engagement. Classes are split into two 3-hour days, and each is packed with:

  • Presentations
  • Class discussions
  • Social breaks
  • Small group exercises held in breakout rooms
  • Homework and training material to bridge both days
  • An in-depth Q&A to close out the training

All this to deliver a masterclass that is even more personal than the traditional face-to-face experience. A higher quality training session is hard to find!

SPEED NETWORKING
Speed networking is designed to accelerate the connections you make throughout the conference that will last long after the conference is over. You just have to show up to a designated meeting room and we’ll pair you up with attendees that share similar interests. Each participant will take time to introduce themselves, what they do and what they’re looking to learn more about. We’ll make sure you have a few topics to explore to get the most out of the interaction.

VIDEO + SLIDE PACKAGE POST-CONFERENCE
All the keynotes, talks, AMAs and any other sessions we stream throughout the conference will be edited and packaged along with slides and additional learning material for your continued learning post-conference.

SAVE MONEY
With GOTO Chicago 2020 being fully online, you can tune in from the comfort of your own home. There is no need for any additional accommodation or travel expenses that typically follow with attending a physical event.

Still need help convincing your boss? We’ve got you covered. Below is an email template you can use when requesting approval to attend the conference from your manager. We strongly recommend that you add in details on which talks and masterclasses you would like to attend. Please also feel free to customize the text!

Dear [MANAGER’S NAME],

I’d like your approval to tune into GOTO Chicago’s online conference (gotochgo.com) on April 27-May 1. This is a great opportunity for me to stay in the know during uncertain times.

The event consists of three days of conference talks and two day of hands-on masterclasses with countless networking sessions, hallway tracks, intimate talks and Q&As, Ask Me Anything sessions, big picture keynotes and so much more.

GOTO Chicago 2020 covers many topics related to my everyday work like [TOPIC] and [TOPIC]. I’m especially interested in hearing [SPEAKER] present their talk on [TALK TITLE]. You can see the full conference program here: gotochgo.com/2020/schedule

I would also like to attend these sessions: [TALK TITLE – recommend including the link!] [TALK TITLE – recommend including the link!] [TALK TITLE – recommend including the link!]

At the conference, I’ll get the chance to network with the hundreds of software developers, architects and engineering managers attending, not just to connect with them, but to learn from them and to understand how other companies are solving similar problems at work.

GOTO Chicago offers a flexible package that means I can customize my experience with a pass for 1 to 5 days. And with this being an online event, there are no additional accommodation or travel costs to account for.

I’m confident that being a part of GOTO Chicago will help me better understand how to leverage new technologies, tools and methodologies to help our project and team, and I’m really looking forward to gaining more practical skills to improve our everyday work. If I am able to attend this conference, I would love to then present a summary of my experience, recommendations and findings back to our team.

Do you agree that this conference is worthwhile for me to attend? If so, I’d be happy to discuss which sessions and masterclasses I would attend in more detail. Thanks in advance,
